Being a VIP member in Audi is my first goal right now, because their gifts this year for VIPs is one limit of quantity artwork made by Zhu Ming who is a super well-known Taiwanese sculpture artist.

Art now is around in our cities and life; you can see many public arts on streets, building lobbies, stations and parks. It makes our life having more vitality, energy and culture. Also makes our step slowly to look out the ambiance.

I am gradually used to take pictures with my Canon 20D for what public arts I passed through; it lets me feel that Taipei city is more beautiful as a matter of fact I thought. It's so cool~

Pole dance-Shanghai’s Latest Fitness Fad

Formerly unpresentable pole dance is becoming the new favorite of female white-collar today. In Shanghai, some high-end dance studio are gradually starting to give pole dance course. In the dance studio where I improve my belly dance also teach pole dance

Though all the learners are dressed in high boots, hot pants and tight tops when they in class, after class I find that most of them change back to quiet and elegant female white collar. The great contrast btw in-class image and after-class image really surprise me..

I’ve talked with some of the learners. The reason why they are mad on pole dance is mainly for keep fit. Besides, they are eager to explore another potential ego who differs from their daily image. ( Haw-haw! I guess they want to explore another alluring and sexy ego)

Anyway, the activity seems to have escaped connotations of strippers and girlie bars, and is seen as just another way to keep fit and enhance personal charm

DIY Oversea Tour Is Most Popular

Kitty's picture

With the income increase of Chinese, traveling is becoming an ever popular choice of relaxation among young people aged 18-35 y.o. Currently, there are two types of travelling, guided tour and DIY tour. Many tourists favor the former one. However, for me and lots of my friends, the self-planed trip is seen as the smartest choice. Guided tour is not seen as genuine travel and it is only for those old people and those who lacks of adventure spirit.

Unlike guided tour, self-guided tour offers various alternatives, such as freedom and flexibility in terms of transportation, accommodation and itinerary.

Further more, guided tour does not meet special needs of some professional hobbies, such as photography, architecture and botany. These professionals expect higher standard of arrangement from the trip, which cannot meet by travel agency.

In addition, compared with guided tour, unconducted tour is more likely to enable busy visitors to understand local society deeply, such as customs, cultures and language.

To sum up, traveling without guide is quite hot for young, wise and quality-pursuing people. If you expect real life from traveling, plan yourself and go on self-conducted tour

Protecting Environment Is Just Lip Service For Youth

Kitty's picture

Several years ago, most of the general public would find the phrase “environment protection” a rather foreign idea in China, but it has now become a major concern for all segments of the society.
However I should say that the concern to environment still dwell on perceptual stage. For majority youth in Shanghai, they are still dwarf of action but the giant of speaking.

‘Back to the old style’ is an events initiated by some Beijing's environmentalists via Internet. The key objective is to call on car owners to stop their engines for one day each month, so as to reduce car pollution. Basically, Shanghai youth’s response tends lukewarm

Lip service can also be proved by another case. After ‘I am not a plastic bag’ launched by Anya Hindmarch, some trendy people around me move hell to purchase it. The trigger is mainly because it is a signal of latest fashion, but the real intention of the designer seems be buried in oblivion.

Looking into the future, the general public mobilized by the media is the force behind environment protection. Moreover, the environment concept should alliance with some fashion brands so as to convert youth’s consuming behavior gradually

Grass-roots NGO:1kg More

Kitty's picture
   | | |

1 kg more is a non-governmental organization (NGO) that sought to build a volunteer network of travelers to help kids in remote areas of China by delivering much needed books and other school supplies.

I became aware of 1kg.org about half year ago when watching Touch Media in taxi. I followed the stories on blog and was amazed by how many young people were willing to help the kids as volunteers. However, I was disappointed that I didn’t see much coverage of this organization in the mainstream media.

Last year, 131 travels were organized to help kids in remote areas via ‘1kg more’. Today, 1kg.org manages a database of around 367 elementary schools which includes information on: 1) how many students are in the school; 2) what is the kids’ primary need; 3) the school name and contact person; 4) detailed directions, including method of transportation, of how an independent traveler can reach the school.

The profiles of volunteers have started to change from white collars to students. I interpreted it as that 1kg.org has created quite some social awareness of charity action on the younger generation.

Boycotting France Is Bubbling With Noise

Kitty's picture
   | | |

Blogs, internet forums and text messages circulating in China have urged consumers to boycott French goods in response to the protests that accompanied the torch relay in Paris. And the movement to boycott French products started to spread across China like wild fire on grassland. Lists of products and brands to boycott, including Louis Vuitton, L’oreal and French retailer Carrefour, have been widely circulated.

No to mention tremendous posts in the BBS space to boycott French product, when I talked with my other friends, half of them (well, to be honest, 2 out of 4 persons) said they are going to boycott French goods. However the others take lukewarm reaction to this event, who believe boycotting is an immature way to handle problems.

I may not consider myself as ANTI-France, but at least, I don't think France is a friendly country at all. No matter how this boycotting work, it is just a way for Chinese normal people to express vehement protest against France government.

In China, lots of people needs help but they don’t know where to seek for volunteers to help them. At the same time, part of people wants to present love or provide help to others, however they don’t know who/where needs help. A innovative online community- Donate Hour is a good platform to solve the needs btw supply and demand.

Liu Run, the initiator of donating hour is intent on furthering the cause of commonweal in China. ‘Donating hours, sharing happiness’ is the slogan of this website. The community believes that the donation of hour is more meaningful rather than giving money and materials.

The effort of this Donate Hour is fruitful. Till now, 838 volunteers has donated 5357 hours via this online community, which benefited 21725 people. Given such savvy concept , I think it will inspire more and more youth to volunteer to commonweal and enhance their awareness towards social responsibility
